Evergreen trees. Leaves imparipinnate; stipules and stipellae absent, petiole and petiolule often basally thickened; l leaflets 5-9(-11), opposite. Racemes many-flowered, 2-5 axillary at the top of branchlets; bracts and bracteoles small. Flowers 8-10 mm; pedicel slender, 3-4 mm; calyx cup-shaped, teeth inconspicuous; corolla white to pale pink, petals subequal, all long clawed, glabrous, vexillum obovate, without callose; stamens monadelphous; ovary hairy, stipitate; ovules 2; style subulate, short. Pod oblong-rhomboid, inflate, dehiscent, valves woody, vacuous inside. Seeds compressed-spheric, shining, with a round hilum 3 mm in diam.

Trees. All parts glabrous except the inflorescences, which are tawny pubescent. Branchlets smooth, olive green becoming gray. Inflorescences in axillary racemes or elongated panicles, often cauliflorous towards the trunk, with large imbricate tailed silky bracts in bud; bracteoles minute. Flowers 20-25 mm, calyx shortly 5-toothed; vexillum with 2 curved laminal calloses at the base, wings equal to the keel, both clawed; stamens diadelphous; ovary stipitate, hairy, 2 ovules.
