On rocks or in crevices among rocks under forest by stream sides; 2700-3600 m.; Guansu, Hebei, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Sichuan, Yunnan.
This species was named by Christ on the basis of a mixed specimen from Yunnan in 1905, it contained A. fengianum Ching and A. fimbriatum Christ, the late one was a young plant without sporangium. 1927 C. Christensen described and published A. venustum Don var. smithianum according to Sichuan’ specimen and promoted a species ( A. smithanum ) by Ching 1957. Through studied they both (A. smithianum and A. fimbriatum ) are very similar, so A. smithianum are merged into A. fimbriatum.
